HONG KONG—On December 13, 2006, a group of Falun Gong practitioners paraded to the Liaison Office of the Central People’s government in Hong Kong’s Special Administrative Region (Liaison Office) and the Central Government Offices. According to the practitioners, the parade was to strongly protest the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s pressuring of the Hong Kong government into advocating and adopting violent actions. The Hong Kong government suppressed the peaceful demonstrations of Falun Gong practitioners when Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress visited Hong Kong.
On the afternoon of December 13, over 30 Falun Gong practitioners gathered at Chater Garden. They then paraded to the Central Government Offices to publicly read their letter to the staff of the Special Administrative Region (SAR) government. The letter strongly condemned the submission of some of the government officials to the CCP’s pressure, aiding and abetting criminals, and condoning the use of violence at the beginning of this month by driving away Falun Gong practitioners who were complying with the law during their peaceful demonstration outside the Liaison Office.
The letter pointed out that the incident broke out on December 3, when Wu Bangguo’s group was visiting Hong Kong. His group included one of the principal perpetrators involved in the persecution of Falun Gong, Minister Wang Xudong of the Information Industry Ministry. To appeal for the end of the persecution and the punishment of these criminals, the practitioners went to the gate of the Liaison Office and asked the police to allow a few people to demonstrate three banners. However, some SAR government officials, evidently pressured by the CCP authorities, did not seek any means of helping the practitioners in effectively exercising their rights for peaceful demonstration. Instead, they drove away the protesters. In the end, they sent out a large number of police officers to clear the area, using violence whenever they felt necessary. They dragged and pulled the less than 20 Falun Gong practitioners to the back door of the Liaison Office before the CCP group arrived. Their excuse was for protecting security. They even refused Falun Gong practitioner’s last request to leave just one banner beside the front door of the Liaison Office.
Falun Gong practitioner Lu Jie said, “Some Hong Kong government officials submitted to the CCP’s pressure. They took violent actions against peacefully demonstrating Falun Gong practitioners. They served as the CCP’s evil thugs and left a tragic and shameful page in Hong Kong’s history”.
After publicly reading the letter and other statements, the practitioners submitted to the SAR government officials their letter and The Epoch Times’ editorial series Nine Commentaries on the Chinese Communist Party and Disintegrating the Communist Party Culture , asking them to pass it on to Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen.
Earlier at around noon, Falun Gong practitioners started out from the police station at the western district and paraded to the front of the Liaison Office. They read their statement strongly protesting the Liaison Office’s continuous role as an accomplice in the CCP’s suppression of Falun Gong. They called upon the staff of the Liaison Office to break away from the CCP organization, to stay as far away as possible from the evil to avoid being washed out by history when the CCP collapses.
