Find yourself at the Romanian Fall Festival!

On Sept. 28 Romanian-Americans from Queens joined their multi-cultural neighbors for a block party celebrating Romanian heritage.  The event took place outside the Romanian Orthodox Church in Elmhurst and featured a performance from Grigore Leşe, one of that country’s pre-eminent folk musicians.  Visitors dined on sarmale and mămăligă (traditional dishes consisting of minced meat wrapped in cabbage and boiled cornmeal) and danced to traditional songs, while children enjoyed face-painting and games.

The nearby neighborhood of Sunnyside is the seat of the Romanian community in New York City.  Approximately 50,000 people of Romanian descent live in the metropolitan area.
