China has unfortunately become notorious for the fake and tainted products its economy produces. One of those fake products apparently saved a man’s life last week.
The Qi Lu evening news reported on April 3 that a man named Jiang from the seaside city of Zhaoyuan in Shandong Province wanted to commit suicide and drank a bottle of insecticide.
He was taken to a hospital, but refused to have his stomach pumped. Instead, he ran out of the hospital and onto a mountainside.
Several times his family almost caught him but he broke free. Three people could not hold him down. After chasing Jiang on the mountain for half an hour, several local residents helped his family restrain him and take him back to the hospital to have his stomach pumped.
Hospital staff said the insecticide bottle, which was supposed to contain the toxic imidacloprid, in fact contained a stimulant.
On the Internet, Jiang’s case received a lot of attention.
One netizen wrote, “Thanks for making and selling fake drugs! Thanks to quality control! You have worked hard!”
Another netizen with the screen name “New Mankind” wrote, “If even pesticides are fake, what cannot be faked?”
