Social media behemoth Facebook now has more than 1 billion active users each month, it was announced Thursday by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who said the moment is “humbling.”

The company also said in a fact sheet that there have been more than 1.13 trillion “likes” since February 2009, 219 billion photos uploaded to the site, and more than 140 billion friend connections. The site also has 600 million mobile users.

“If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you. Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life,” Zuckerberg wrote in a blog post.

The top five countries where the company is growing are Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and the United States, listed in alphabetical order, the fact sheet said.

In an interview with BusinessWeek, Zuckerberg said that to mark the occasion—which actually took place in mid-September—“everyone came together and counted down” when it appeared the milestone was approaching.

“Then we all went back to work. We have this ethos where we want to be a culture of builders, right?” he added. “We don’t want to overly celebrate any particular milestone.”

In its last update in June, the site announced it had 955 million users, with 543 mobile users. The company hit the 500-million active user milestone in July 2010.
