Facebook quietly introduced its newest feature to its mobile Facebook application, “Find Friends Nearby” on Monday, but just hours after releasing the new yet unofficial feature, the social media giant pulled it from its mobile apps for iOS and Android and on its mobile website.

In its continuous effort to broaden its mobile experience, the new feature gave Facebook users a landing page on which to find other users who were within a certain distance.

When two users launch this feature simultaneously in close proximity, they will see each other’s name in a list, even if they are not friends on Facebook. For each list entry, there is a button to quickly add the user as a friend.

Facebook has yet to release an official announcement about the feature, which could make users uneasy.
