A Facebook outage locked more than 150,000 users out of their accounts for over two hours earlier today, Friday, Sept. 24.
The popular social networking hub has apologized to its 500 million subscribers by posting a message on its site.
“We’re sorry again for the inconvenience of today’s site outage. A failure of this size always involves a number of things going wrong at once, and that was certainly the case today,” the company said in a Facebook post.
“Once the databases had recovered and the root cause had been fixed, we slowly allowed more people back onto the site.
“We want you to know that we take the performance and reliability of Facebook very seriously.”
This is believed to the third outage suffered by Facebook in the last 48 hours. The company says this happened as a result of an error in one of the site’s automated systems, ABC reported.
In Australia, users received error messages this morning around 6:00 a.m. AEST. The problems lasted for over 2.5 hours for some users.
Facebook says it has learned “one big lesson” from the shutdown.
During the outage, Facebook used Twitter, another social media, to keep users updated.
One tweet said: “Facebook may be slow or unavailable for some people because of site issues. We’re working to fix this quickly,” according to TVNZ.
