The manufacturer of Excedrin, NoDoz, Gas-X, and Bufferin issued a recall of said products this week because they may have been mixed with one another or contain broken tablets, according to a statement on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s website.

Novartis is recalling all lots of these four products. The recalled Excedrin and NoDoz products have expiration dates of Dec. 20, 2014, or earlier, and the recalled Bufferin and Gas-X Prevention products have expiration dates of Dec. 20, 2013, or earlier.

These products were distributed around the country to various stores, retailers, and wholesalers. Novartis said the recall is being conducted as a precautionary measure.

The drug maker’s facility in Lincoln, Neb., “has voluntarily suspended operations and shipments to accelerate maintenance and other improvement activities at the site,” according to the statement.

The manufacturer said mixing different products in the same bottle could result in taking a higher or lower strength than was originally intended. A person could also receive an unintended drug ingredient, potentially triggering an allergic reaction or overdose.
