It’s easy to forget just how much we rely on Gmail. Perhaps that’s part of the beauty of Google’s free email service – it’s a part of our lives now, so much so that we don’t even remember what a mess email services were before Gmail came along and flipped the industry on its head.

As great as Gmail is, Google is always working on improving the service and adding new features, both online and to its mobile apps. To that end, the company just released an update to its Android app that users can begin enjoying immediately.

There’s no question that this latest update to the Gmail app for Android is a minor one, but there are still some cool new features for users to enjoy. One will be of particular interest, as it really adds to the experience in one key area.

As Droid Life noted in a recent blog post, users can now tap on a contact’s avatar to see a comprehensive contact page that includes not just contact info, but also conversations. You'll also find images, posts and more from Google+, should your contact have a profile.

Beyond that, the process for adding non-Gmail accounts has also been improved.

The new Gmail update is in the process of rolling out to all users with compatible devices. If you’re impatient, you can install it manually by clicking here.
