Putting speculation to rest, EverQuest is definitely coming to Playstation 4--but the release date may not happen until 2015.
Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley answered people’s questions during a q-and-a on Reddit recently.
Asked whether EverQuest Next would be coming to consoles, Smedley said that “We will absolutely be bringing EQN to the Playstation 4.”
However, pressed for a release date, he said that he’s “not sure yet” whether it will launch in 2014, adding “likely sometime next year.”
The mindset of the team behind the game was revealed last fall, when producer David Georges said that the team was focused on a PC-oriented launch.
“Now, you’re dumb not to explore other options with a business of this type, but we’re very serious about developing for the PC,” he told Eurogamer at the time. “You know the company knows a lot about the PlayStation 4 - look at DC Universe Online and Planetside 2 - so we have a lot of people becoming extraordinarily knowledgeable with that box. We’re not adverse to the idea, but we’re not going down that path yet.”
