“The EU is faced with very important decisions concerning its future policies. Policies which will have serious impact on the daily lives of citizens, who in turn, can influence those decisions by going to vote,” emphasized Alejo Vidal-Quadras and Mechtild Rothe, Vice-President of the European Parliament (EP) last week in the presentation of the Communication Strategy for the forthcoming EP elections on June 4-7 this year.

The campaigns, which will be held simultaneously in all 27 EU member states, have already started. All funds to be used during the campaign focus on the topic of the various possible solutions that may develop in one way or another, depending on the political orientation of the next Parliament.

Campaign billboards were prepared to provide information and ask questions in the field of energy, fuels, climate change, agriculture, equal opportunity, immigration, security, consumer protection, budget, and markets.

In all member states within 10 days will be installed 13-foot three-dimensional installations that will complement the billboards. Choice boxes—multimedia cabins the size of a room—will be installed in specific locations in major European cities. In these rooms voters may express their views in front of video cameras. Their selected messages will be broadcasted each day on video screens outside the cabin, as well as in Brussels on the EuroparlTV (Internet-based EP television), and on YouTube.

The Vice-President of Parliament Alejo Vidal-Quadras (EPP-ED, Spain) said: “The message of the campaign is about choice. It should not urge citizens to exercise their civil rights, but to stress on the various decisions on EU policies which will have its impact on people’s lives, and also, that this choice is made at a European level, through the Parliament which has a major role in terms of what policy is chosen.”

This is the Sixth campaign for European parliament and is being held under the motto “European elections—it is your choice.”

The campaign will cost $24 million. During the elections in June, 375 million Europeans with the right to vote will elect 736 MEPs from 27 member countries.
