Eric Holder subpoena: The House Judiciary Committee will question Attorney General Eric Holder Wednesday over the Justice Department’s secret review of Associated Press phone records.

Holder will also face questions over the IRS targeting conservative groups, the Washington Post reported.

“Members of the Committee will ... ask pointed questions about the Justice Department’s decision to obtain two months’ worth of telephone records of reporters and editors for The Associated Press,” House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte said in a statement obtained by the Post.

The IRS is not connected to the Justice Department, but the committee has said it should protect free speech.

“Any abridgement of the First Amendment is very concerning, especially reports that the IRS targeted conservative groups for unwarranted scrutiny during an election year,” said Goodlatte.

Holder removed himself from the decision to subpoena AP phone records, according to the news agency. The Justice Department said he stepped aside in a move called recusal because he was involved in an investigation over who gave out information to the AP about a story on CIA operations in Yemen.

Deputy Attorney General Jim Cole was assigned to oversee AP’s phone record case
