Epy Guerrero dies: Guerrero, a legendary baseball scout, died on May 23 in the Dominican Republic.

The Toronto Blue Jays, for whom Guerrero scouted for for many years, was honored with a moment of silence before the Blue Jay’s game versus Baltimore, according to the LA Times.

Carlos Delgado was one of those who Guerrero scouted and recommended the signing of. Delgado tweeted that he heard the “sad news” of Guerrero’s death. “Thanks for giving me the opportunity,” he said. “Rest in peace.”

Guerrero “should be largely credited with building the rosters anchored by Dominican talent that led to Toronto finishing above .500 for from 1983 through 1993 and winning two World Series titles on the way,” according to the Blue Jay’s blog.

Manny Acta, former Washington and Cleveland manager, told the Houston Chronicle that Guerrero’s death signals a sad day for baseball, especially in the Dominican Republic.

“Epy Guerrero was more than just a great scout; he was also an excellent human being and visionary,“ said Guerrero. ”He was one of the first ones to implement the current baseball academies system that has helped produce so many great MLB players from the DR.”
