Australia came in third at the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket last month, “but is bred to be suited by the mile-and-a-half Derby trip,” according to BBC.

Jockey Joseph O'Brien will ride the horse for his father Aidan, who is attempting to become the first trainer to win the race three years in a row.

Aidan saddled last year’s winner Ruler of the World, Camelot in 2012, and High Chaparral in 2002.

Australia is the son of 2011 Derby winner Galileo and 2004 Oaks winner Ouija Board.

Snow Sky, a predicted favorite, is not going to race after banging a joint earlier this week.

Jockey James Doyle, who had been prepared to ride Snow Sky, will ride Pinzolo.
