“The story of January 6 changes drastically, depending on who is telling it.”

With those words, Joshua Philipp opens “The Real Story of Jan. 6,” a new documentary produced by The Epoch Times and Epoch TV.

Philipp, the host of “Crossroads” on Epoch TV and a senior reporter with The Epoch Times, notes that Americans have been fed a carefully crafted narrative about the protests and unrest at the U.S. Capitol. Philipp narrates the documentary.

“Having been on the ground with my colleagues reporting from early morning until late night on January 6, it has been clear that many of the narratives contradict reality,” Philipp said.

“The Real Story of January 6” will premiere at 8 p.m. Eastern on Friday, July 22, on Epoch TV. The documentary reveals details about January 6 that many Americans have not heard before.

“There has been a narrative perpetuated about January 6 that omits many of the facts about what happened that day,” said Jasper Fakkert, editor-in-chief of The Epoch Times. “With in-depth interviews and exclusive video footage, we take an objective look at the issues, the people, and the impacts of what happened that day.”

The film examines the police’s use of force on January 6, from the extensive deployment of incendiary devices on the crowd to the use of gas in the Capitol’s tunnel entrance that caused a deadly stampede.

A nationally renowned expert on crowd control said the police’s use of rubber bullets, dispersion grenades, and other incendiary devices was “egregious.” He likened the police presence on a terrace overlooking the large crowd on the west side of the Capitol to a “shooting gallery.”

The killing of Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt by Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd is given a fresh examination, with expert analysis on whether Byrd’s shooting of unarmed Babbitt was justified.

The documentary also looks at the presence of unindicted suspicious actors and unidentified material witnesses in the hallway where Babbitt was shot. Suspicious actors who were never arrested or charged were also seen at various locales around the Capitol grounds.

A January 6 defendant held in pretrial detention in Washington D.C. and at several other jails describes the treatment he and other detainees received from guards. He describes his belief that solitary confinement is being used to coerce defendants into taking plea deals that include prison sentences.

The human toll of the government’s unprecedented prosecution efforts is told through the story of one defendant who took his own life in early 2022. A relative lamented, “They’re out for blood—and they’re getting it.”

A Trump administration insider details what National Guard forces were offered to congressional leaders, and when, in the days leading up to January 6.

A well-known political commentator offers perspectives on the roots of January 6, insisting that what unfolded at the Capitol was “an inside job.” The goal, she said, is ultimately to keep former President Donald Trump from running for another term in 2024.

“The Real Story of January 6” will stream free on Epoch TV for subscribers on July 22, and thereafter will be available for purchase on demand. Visit the film’s landing page for more details.
