An investigation is underway after the stepson of famed television personality and bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman allegedly fatally shot his 13-year-old son by accident.

Gregory Zecca, son of Chapman’s wife Francie Frane, allegedly shot and killed his son Anthony Zecca over the weekend at their apartment in Naples, Florida.

In a statement to The Epoch Times, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they are conducting a death investigation into the shooting, calling it a “tragic isolated incident.”

Office spokesperson Michelle Batten said on July 19 that authorities were dispatched to the apartment on Sumter Grove Way in Naples shortly after 8 p.m. local time.

“Our detectives are conducting a thorough investigation looking into all the elements of this tragic incident,” Batten continued. “The investigation includes statements from witnesses who were at the scene, forensic testing, subpoenas, and search warrants.”

It remains unclear exactly how the incident unfolded. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

Chapman, 72, rose to fame in 2004 on the popular A&E program “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” which for eight seasons followed his family-based team out of Hawaii to track down and apprehend fugitives who had skipped bail.

The show at the time featured the bounty hunter and his late wife, Beth Chapman, until its cancellation in 2012.

The two went on to star on the CMT spin-off series “Dog and Beth: On the Hunt” the following year and “Dog’s Most Wanted,” on WGN America in 2019.

Chapman and Frane met in 2019, shortly after Beth died at the age of 51 following a lengthy battle with throat cancer, and later tied the knot in 2021.

Frane also lost her husband to cancer six months prior to Beth’s passing, with the pair bonding over their shared grief.

“We understood the pain that the other one was feeling and [in] those tough days and moments, we helped each other stand up,” she told Entertainment Tonight in a 2020 interview.

“We could cry with each other and talk about what we were feeling. We were able to walk alongside each other through the pain and heartbreak and it brought us together in this amazing way.”

Chapman has 13 children from six different relationships over the years.
