“Real Housewives of Potomac” star Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward “Eddie” Osefo, were arrested on Oct. 9 for allegedly “fraudulently reporting a burglary and theft.”

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office announced in a statement that the couple, both 41, were booked in Maryland, following a Grand Jury indictment.

After bail was set at $50,000, the couple posted bond and were released on Oct. 10.

According to court documents reviewed by The Epoch Times, both are facing 16 charges—seven counts of insurance fraud, eight counts of conspiracy insurance fraud, and one count of making a false statement to a police officer.

The charges, seven of which are felonies, stemmed from a police investigation in April 2024, when the couple reported that their home in Finksburg had been burglarized while they were on a trip to Jamaica.

Luxury items, including jewelry, clothing, and shoes valued at more than $200,000, were among the 80 items reported stolen.

During the investigation, detectives noted the purported point of entry—a second-floor window above a deck—showed no indication that anyone had been present there. The home also had a security system in place, and while the couple was away, no motion was detected inside the residence.

A day after reporting the incident, the Osefos initiated three separate insurance claims for the burglary and theft. One claim was settled for over $25,000, and during a recorded interview, Edward Osefo failed to mention the jewelry claim or payout with the insurance company.

“Detectives found that over $20,000 worth of the items reported stolen had been returned by the owners to the locations the items were purchased,” the sheriff’s office stated.

“Further, detectives found images of a homeowner wearing jewelry that had been reported stolen after the burglary took place.”

As a result, on Oct. 9, a search and seizure warrant was executed for their residence, where “deputies found at least 15 items that appear to be the same ones claimed stolen during the alleged burglary.”

The Osefos joined the “Real Housewives of Potomac” in 2020 for season 5 of the Bravo reality television series. Wendy has a background in journalism and is a former professor at Johns Hopkins University, while Edward is an attorney and the founder and CEO of a cannabis company.

According to investigators, the couple appeared to be burdened by substantial debt and allegedly  “conspired to make fraudulent statements and provided misleading information in support of making the three insurance claims for financial gain.”

The Epoch Times reached out to representatives for the couple and did not hear back by the time of publication.

Last month, the Osefos’ co-star Karen Huger was released from prison after being convicted in December on charges of driving under the influence.
