Crooner Michael Bublé on Tuesday recounted how he nearly became lunch for a petulant polar bear during a beach party.

The singer, 48, opened up about the incident during an appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” where he explained how he had encountered the “aggressive” creature during a movie wrap party with actor Berry Pepper.

Polar Bears On the Beach

The two were participating in a little revelry, which involved running on the beach, according to a story by the Daily Caller.

“It was a terrible idea, it was in a movie with Berry Pepper ... It was up in like Churchill, Manitoba, I think, and we were drinking at the rap party,” Mr. Bublé recounted for Ms. Clarkson, describing how he got himself into the situation after consuming some alcohol along with his co-star.

“God help me, I think. I think, in the moment, we’re like, ‘You know what we should do? We should like race down the beach.’ And so me and him and another guy came, we came running down this beach, and a guy that lived there just started swearing, literally swearing at us,” Mr. Bublé explained during his appearance on the show.

What they didn’t know at the time was that the man was trying to warn them to stay away from the formidable animals.

‘Cuddly’ Bears

Mr. Bublé admitted to how naive he was to the power of these polar bears and how dangerous they could be to those who encounter them.

“We didn’t realize we were running to our certain death,” Mr. Bublé recalled. “Because there were polar bears all down the beach. And yes, they’re the most aggressive—but God, they’re so cuddly.”

“They’re beautiful,” agreed Ms. Clarkson. “Yeah, and [in] those Coca-Cola commercials, they’re like ‘Snuggle.’”

Still, Mr. Bublé acknowledged how lucky he was not to get hurt.

“Yeah, but they will eat you,” Mr. Bublé said. “Sometimes I wonder about that, how close I was to being like a little polar bear lunch.”

“Who would’ve thought there were just polar bears—nobody ever hears that. ‘Oh, there’s polar bears hanging on the beach.’ It doesn’t happen,” added Ms. Clarkson.

Mr. Bublé, who is Canadian-Italian, is a five-time Grammy winner and has sold over 75 million records worldwide. He is often credited with renewing an interest in and appreciation for the traditional pop standards.

In 2016, Mr. Bublé made headlines beyond his musical career when his oldest son was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a rare type of childhood liver cancer. His son has since fully recovered.
