Grammy-winning singer Michael Bolton revealed on Friday that he has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and will be taking a “temporary break” from touring to focus on his recovery.

Mr. Bolton shared on his Facebook page on Jan. 6 that he faced “unexpected challenges” over the holidays and underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor.

“Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumor, which required immediate surgery. Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success,” he stated.

The 70-year-old Connecticut native said that he is currently recuperating at home and intends to devote his energy and time in “the next couple of months” to his recovery, thereby taking a temporary break from touring.

“For the next couple of months, I will be devoting my time and energy to my recovery which means I’ll have to take a temporary break from touring,” he stated.

“It is always the hardest thing for me to ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon.

“I am beyond grateful for all the love and support you have so generously shown me through the years. Know that I’m keeping your positive messages in my heart, and I’ll give you more updates as soon as I can,” Mr. Bolton said.

Mr. Bolton did not specify the duration of his break. According to his official website, he had upcoming tour dates set for Florida in February, followed by tours in Canada, Ohio, and Illinois.

The singer also had tour dates scheduled in Switzerland and other locations across the United States through May.

He debuted a new song called “Spark of Light” in June last year, which he composed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Bolton said he wanted to share something beautiful and uplifting amid such challenging times.

“I felt a responsibility to help people feel a spark in their lives. Music is very powerful that way,” Mr. Bolton told Billboard on July 14, 2023.

“We’re all so humanly connected; we’re so in need of some light. That became the working theme every day: How do we make [the music] make other people feel better?” he added.

Mr. Bolton earned his first Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance in 1990 for the song “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You.” He scored his first chart-topping album with 1991’s “Time, Love & Tenderness,” which included his cover of Percy Sledge’s “When A Man Loves A Woman.”
