Lynda Carter, renowned for her iconic portrayal of TV’s Wonder Woman and still radiating charm at the age of 72, affirmed that she hasn’t undergone any cosmetic procedures to maintain her youthful appearance.

“I’m just too afraid of looking different,” she disclosed to Closer Weekly during the God’s Love We Deliver Golden Heart Awards in New York City, where Ms. Carter was recognized for her work addressing AIDS, food, and inclusion. “I don’t think I’m ever going to go under the knife—I am what I am!”

While acknowledging minimal Botox use and crediting her fitness regimen with a Peloton bike, Ms. Carter emphasized the significance of inner beauty regardless of age. “We are still full-blooded women with the complexities we all have and the powerful inner selves we all have,” she asserted. “That’s the part of Wonder Woman that resounds in people—it’s that person inside of us who is so powerful that we create life. As I like to say, we are the mothers of all mankind!”

“People still recognize me all the time as Wonder Woman,” Ms. Carter told PEOPLE. “I don’t know that I’ve changed too dramatically.”

Explaining the reason behind her recognizable appearance, she remarked, “I don’t cut my face, so I probably look just myself, but older.”

Having portrayed the superhero in the 1970s series, Ms. Carter grasped the essence of female empowerment. “Wonder Woman taught women to be who you are,” she reflected in a prior interview with Closer Weekly. “I have received the greatest letters from people telling me what an inspiration she was to them because she represents an inner strength every woman has.”

Despite initial skepticism from TV executives, the show triumphed, defying doubts about a female-led series. “TV executives didn’t think there was a market for a female holding a show like Wonder Woman,” Ms. Carter said. “Women were buying all their products, yet men dominated the shows.”

Expressing support for Gal Gadot’s portrayal of Wonder Woman in the recent film franchise, Ms. Carter emphasized the character’s enduring impact. “I want it to move to the next generation of women, and inspire the next generation of women,” she said. “There is some visceral identity that people have with the character that I played because they went in their backyards and they pretended to be her.” Ms. Gadot stepped into the role of the golden lasso-wielding superhero in an updated big-screen blockbuster in 2017.

Regarding her original iconic costumes from the series, Ms. Carter humorously revealed their fate. “They’re falling apart in a closet somewhere,” she chuckled.

Presently, Ms. Carter dedicates time to her family and indulges in her passion for music, despite societal attempts to pigeonhole her. “People are always trying to put me in a box,” she remarked. “And I just don’t pay any attention to it.”

Ms. Carter is among a handful of celebrities such as Julia Roberts, Salma Hayek, and Halle Berry who are saying “no” to plastic surgery.

Oscar winning actress Emma Thompson openly shared her views on plastic surgery during an interview with Hello Magazine, describing it as “mad” and highlighting concerns about the societal normalization of such procedures. She emphasized the potential negative impact on future generations, labeling it “chronically unhealthy” and warning against the normalization of surgically altered appearances.

In a subsequent interview with The Wrap, Thompson reaffirmed her stance, describing cosmetic surgery as “a form of collective psychosis.” She attributed her perspective to her longstanding advocacy for women’s rights and body autonomy.

Additionally, Pink, the singer, took to X to share a candid reflection on aging and embracing her natural appearance despite societal pressures. She emphasized the authenticity of facial expressions and discouraged altering one’s appearance artificially.

Similarly, Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep expressed her aversion to plastic surgery, citing its potential to hinder communication and advocating for the acceptance of aging as a natural process. She emphasized the importance of cherishing life’s moments and embracing the passage of time.

“You'd be amazed at how many men in this industry have gone down that road [of getting plastic surgery]. I just don’t get it. You have to embrace getting older,” she told Good Housekeeping. “Life is precious, and when you’ve lost a lot of people, you realize each day is a gift.”
