Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have revealed the name of their fourth child: Psalm West.

The boy was born on May 9 via a surrogate, it was reported.

Kardashian tweeted the words Psalm West with an image of the swaddled boy.

“With the arrival of our fourth child ... we are blessed beyond measure,” a message on the image said. “We have everything we need.”

“He’s here and he’s perfect!” she also wrote on May 10, adding: “He’s also Chicago’s twin lol I’m sure he will change a lot but now he looks just like her.”

Their child’s name received sneers on social media as people poked fun at the name choice.

“Psalm West sounds like the location of a new desert music festival that costs $1,000 a ticket,” wrote one person, NBC News reported.

Culture critic Ira Madison III wrote, “Psalm West sounds like a 1941 Errol Flynn movie but ok.”

Comedian John Fugelsang also tweeted, “Kim & Kanye have every right to name the baby Psalm West but I was honestly hoping they’d name this one South By South.”

But Laura Wattenberg, founder of namerology.com, said that many more American parents are choosing unusual names, opting out of naming their children traditional ones. “A baby name is a very personal choice more today than ever before,” she told NBC. “Kim and Kanye aren’t the only ones who have given up naming baby after grandpa.”

There were 15 newborns in 2018 named Pslam, she said.

“It’s part of a trend toward creativity that’s seen lots and lots of parents turning words into names,” Wattenberg said.

Kardashian and West named their three other children Chicago, Saint, and North.

“Kim and Kanye seem to work hard to give the siblings names that have similar ‘character,’” she said. “This is true of parents I work with as well, whether they favor unusual or traditional names. I wouldn’t expect to find many Psalms in your child’s kindergarten class anytime soon.”

Surrogate Choice

Kardashian decided to use a surrogate after dealing with placenta accreta during previous pregnancies, according to People magazine.

Placenta accreta occurs when a portion or all of the placenta is connected to the uterine wall after the child is born. In normal cases, the placenta detaches and is pushed out after the baby.

The condition is somewhat rare, affecting about three in 1,000 pregnancies. It can result in severe blood loss or can be deadly, People noted.

In 2013, after giving birth to her first child, Kardashian said it was painful.

“My mom was crying; she had never seen anything like this before. My delivery was fairly easy, but then going through that—it was the most painful experience of my life,” she wrote, according to People.

Meanwhile, in 2016, during an episode with “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” her doctor told her: “You never know if you might have the same type of problem that could be more serious this time. … You’re always taking a little bit of a chance. There are situations where retained placenta could be life or death.”

She later said in the episode: “If the two doctors, that I trust, have told me it wouldn’t be safe for me to get pregnant again, I have to listen to that. But because I don’t know anyone that has been a surrogate or used one, I didn’t really think about that as an option for me,” People noted.
