Demi Moore has joined the cast of co-creators Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace’s new drama series “Landman.”

Ms. Moore will star as a regular in the “modern-day tale of fortune-seeking” in the oil fields, Paramount+ announced in a press release on Wednesday.

The 61-year-old actress, who is best known for her roles in the 1990s films, “Ghost” and “A Few Good Men,” will play the role of Cami, “wife to one of the most powerful oilmen in Texas and friend of Tommy Norris,” played by Billy Bob Thornton.

“Demi Moore is an iconic and extraordinary talent,” Chris McCarthy, president and CEO at Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, said. “We are thrilled to have her join Billy Bob Thornton and the star-studded cast of Landman, our next epic series from Taylor Sheridan.”

Mr. Thornton, 68, plays the lead character, a crisis manager for an oil company. The Oscar-winning actor appeared briefly in Mr. Sheridan’s “1883,” a prequel to his wildly popular “Yellowstone” series.

“We are in a privileged position to be able to work with people we truly admire,” said David Glass, CEO of 101 Studios, in a statement last month. “With Landman, Taylor developed it with Billy Bob in mind, and we were thrilled when he came on board. He is not only one of the greatest actors of our generation but also a true creative partner.”

Mr. Thornton had appeared in numerous TV shows and films since the 1980s, but his popularity rose when he starred in the 1996 film “Sling Blade,” which he also wrote and directed. The role earned him an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay and a nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

The pair joins the long list of veteran movie stars, including Kevin Costner, Sylvester Stallone, and Harrison Ford, among others, who’ve had roles in Mr. Sheridan’s string of popular shows.

“Landman” is based on the “11-part podcast ‘Boomtown,’ the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics,” according to Paramount+. The show is set in the “proverbial boomtowns of West Texas.”

Fans of other series created by Mr. Sheridan will recognize some familiar faces, including James Jordan, who has had recurring roles in several of the creator’s series, including “Yellowstone,” “1883,” and “Mayor of Kingstown.”

Michelle Randolph, 23, who is known for her role in the “Yellowstone” prequel dubbed “1923,” has also been cast in “Landman.”

The series also stars Ali Larter, Kayla Wallace, Jacob Lofland, Mark Collie, and Paulina Chávez.

Production Begins

On Tuesday, Feb.6, the series began filming in and around Fort Worth, Texas, about 40 miles from Mr. Sheridan’s 600-acre Bosque Ranch in Weatherford.

In January 2022, Mr. Sheridan, 53, also purchased the sprawling Four Sixes Ranch in West Texas, which shot to fame when it was featured on the “Yellowstone” series. The more than 266,0000-acre ranch near Guthrie was reportedly purchased for over $320 million.

Both properties are working horse and cattle ranches but are also used for filming. Last year, according to the New York Post, Mr. Sheridan reportedly charged Paramount $50,000 a week to film his show on his two ranches.

Mr. Sheridan and his wife, Nicole Muirbrook, along with their 13-year-old son, split their time between the two ranches.

“Landman” is the latest addition to Mr. Sheridan’s growing list of series, which also includes “Special Ops: Lioness,” “Tulsa King,” and “Lawmen: Bass Reeves.”

It is unclear when “Landman” will begin streaming on Paramount+.
