Actress Candace Cameron Bure, star of the forthcoming film “Unsung Hero,” which is set to debut in theaters on April 26, has joined the growing list of celebrities fleeing Los Angeles.
The “Full House” star discussed the reasons behind her departure during a recent interview with Fox News, noting that her family had experienced “quite a few problems over the years,” specifically regarding paparazzi and fans regularly intruding on her property.
“Not everyone in Hollywood lives behind guard gates,” the 48-year-old explained, adding that she didn’t live in a gated neighborhood at the time.
“It’s amazing what people feel they can do,” continued Mrs. Bure, who shares three children—Natasha, 25; Lev, 24; and Maksim, 22—with her husband, former ice hockey player Valeri Bure.
Departing LA
The Los Angeles native previously touched upon her decision to move away from Hollywood in an Instagram story shared last month.“Many of you have asked, ‘Did you move?’ Yes,” Mrs. Bure declared in the March 24 clip, per Us Weekly. “Why? Mostly for security reasons.”
The actress continued: “Also, family dynamics have changed. The kids don’t live in Los Angeles anymore. Mama will go where they go! I travel a lot. The seasons of life.”
“One of my best friends lives in Dallas, and then I have another best friend that lives in Austin. I had visited both of them multiple times towards the end of the year, and it just felt so different compared to the community that I have in LA. And that’s when I really started praying, ‘Lord, where do you want me; where do you see me for this next chapter?’” Ms. Bure explained.
Celebrities Flee California
Mrs. Bure is just one of many celebrities who have fled Hollywood in recent years, joining the likes of actors Adrian Grenier, James Van Der Beek, and Sylvester Stallone, among many others.The “Rocky” star revealed that he was “permanently” leaving California behind during the season two premiere of his Paramount+ reality show, “The Family Stallone,” which aired in February.
“After a long, hard consideration, your mother and I have decided it’s time to move on and leave the state of California permanently, and we’re going to go to Florida,” the 77-year-old and father of five told his three daughters—Sophia, 27; Sistine, 25; and Scarlet, 21—whom he shares with his wife of almost 30 years, Jennifer Flavin, per CBS News.
During the episode, the 55-year-old model said relocating was initially her idea and attributed the move to her needing “a big change” in her life after her daughters moved out of state—Sophia and Sistine to New York City and Scarlet to Miami for college.
“We have a lot of roots in California, so it’s not an easy transition to Florida,” Mr. Stallone explained. “But Jennifer really had her heart set on it. I gave in.”
In 2014, actor Matthew McConaughey, 54, and his wife, Camila Alves McConaughey, 41, sold their home in Malibu, California, and moved their family to Austin. The couple, who wed in 2012, share three children, Levi, 15, Vida, 14, and Livingston, 11.
Speaking to Southern Living in March about life for his family in Texas, Mr. McConaughey said “time slowed down” in the Lone Star State. “The clock was right, the body clock,” he explained.
“And part of that is ritual; part of that is just the distance between places and the way people move,” he continued. “But it’s also the hospitality, the courtesy, the common sense, the lack of drama.”
Mrs. McConaughey shared a similar sentiment: “We can travel all over the world, but the moment I land in Texas, the gravity just comes down, my shoulders relax, I know I’m home.”
