CHICAGO—Sam Lay, a Chicago blues drummer and vocalist who played with Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, has died at age 86.

Lay died Saturday of natural causes in Chicago, Alligator Records said Monday.
