Actor Josh Hartnett has returned to work on set following a car accident involving a police vehicle in St. John’s, the capital of the province of Newfoundland, Canada.

The “Oppenheimer” star was briefly hospitalized last week with minor injuries when an SUV he was traveling in collided with a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) patrol vehicle.

“The two-vehicle collision at the intersection of New Cove Road and Elizabeth Avenue happened shortly before 1 a.m. today,” the RNC said in a press release. “There was significant damage to both of the vehicles involved.

“The 59-year-old male driver and the 47-year-old male passenger of the SUV were sent to hospital with what is believed to be minor injuries. The male officer went to hospital as a precaution.”

According to multiple outlets, Hartnett was promptly cleared and released from the hospital and was able to get back to work without impacting production for a new project he’s starring in.

On Sept. 29, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation confirmed Hartnett was the passenger involved, with the incident now under investigation.

Collision analysts with the RNC are requesting any witnesses with additional information or video footage from the scene to come forward to investigators.

The Epoch Times has reached out to the RNC for comment on the matter, but did not hear back by the time of publication.

Filming New Netflix Series

Hartnett is in the country filming a new untitled six-episode limited series for Netflix, the streaming service announced in August.

The series follows a fisherman played by Hartnett, who is forced to protect his family and community when a mysterious sea creature terrorizes his remote Newfoundland town.

“Newfoundland and Labrador’s rich history and stunning landscapes make it the ideal canvas for a project of this magnitude,” the premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, Andrew Furey, told Netflix.

“The province’s commitment to storytelling, talented crews, and unique beauty ensure that this series will capture the spirit of our province. We are excited to be part of bringing this incredible vision to the screen.”

“The Virgin Suicides” actor is starring in the project alongside Mackenzie Davis and Charlie Heaton, with an exact release date still unknown.

Best known for his blockbuster roles in “Pearl Harbor” and “Black Hawk Down,” Hartnett made a major acting comeback last year in the psychological thriller “Trap.”
Over the last two decades, Hartnett remained distant from the Hollywood lifestyle in an effort to provide a normal upbringing for his four children out of the public eye.
“I just didn’t want my life to be swallowed up by my work,” he explained to The Guardian in an interview last year.
“We don’t bring [work] home,” Hartnett further elaborated in a separate interview with People.

“Dad has to go to work, and they do know what I do, but they don’t understand the ’thing' yet. And I’m glad that they don’t. We’ll try and keep them away from it as much as possible because we want them to have normal upbringings.”
