Enjoying Halloween

Halloween has always been a celebratory holiday. Even with the downfall of the economy, the combination of magical and enchanting foliage can help develop the mood for the chills and thrills of Halloween.

Decorating the home for Halloween is one of the many pleasures of celebrating this holiday. There are plenty of traditional and non-traditional Halloween decorations that can help you get ready for the Halloween spirit.

One of the enjoyments for decorating your home is picking your theme and making the home noticeable, mysterious, and fun. You don’t have to limit yourself to gremlins, witches, and goblins.

For some people, it’s about families spending quality time while decorating and celebrating the changing of the seasons. Traditional Halloween festivities include trick-or treating, ghost stories, bonfires, scary sounds, smoke and fog, special lighting, costumes, and parties.

Going “green” is a new twist to Halloween that has emerged in recent years. For instance, eco-friendly, reusable trick-or-treat bags can be made from fabric or other items around the house.

Candy Corn, Hershey’s Kisses, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are traditional candy offerings. Alternative sweet offerings can include fruit, natural lollipops, whole-grain granola bars, organic chocolate, gluten-free or fair-trade products, and kosher and dairy-free treats.

For kids who cannot eat candy, hand out non-edible items such as crayons, boxes of raisins, pencils, stickers, and water tattoos. There are always options when choosing non-traditional ideas for Halloween.

Traditions are wonderful. By including healthy, eco-friendly alternatives, we can make the holiday even more magical, charming, and powerful.
