Tuesday night proved quite historic for the English football (soccer) team, albeit not quite the way fans would have liked. The 1-0 victory over Sweden was the first time the Three Lions had beaten the Scandinavians since 1968, ending a 43-year skid.

It was the second victory in four days for England.

“I am happy because we won two games and this evening we created a lot of chances,” England’s ManagerFabio Capello said on the team’s website.

The lone goal in the match was England’s 2000th International goal, but instead of an English player basking in the glory, it came off an own goal by Sweden’s Daniel Majstorovic. England’s Gareth Barry was originally credited with the historic header in the 22nd minute, but replay showed it was actually deflected off of Majstorovic.
