The Hebe Haven Yacht Club’s Quest Yachting Typhoon Series 2015 came to a close with a final geometric race on Saturday afternoon, August 22, 2015. The weather was sunny with a better than expected breeze giving competitors an opportunity for an enjoyable sail.

In IRC Division-A, “Jelik”, appearing for only the second time in this year’s series, although not first over the start line, sped three times round the sausage shaped course to be first over the finish in 55mins 45secs but with such a short intricate race she was pushed into 5th place on corrected time. “FreeFire” crossed the line 2nd but had to settle for 4th place.

Zannekin the series leader prior to the race, put in another fine performance to take 1st place EFG Mandrake was 2nd and Ambush 3rd. Zannekin with 5-first place finishes, 2-seconds and 2-thirds took the series title with 9-points well ahead of Ambush and Signal 8 on 21 and 26-points respectively.

In IRC Division-B, the “Lighthorse” to Sea Wolf first place battle continued with “Lighthorse” first over the line and “Sea Wolf” just 30 seconds behind - it was a close title race. “Lighthorse” was pushed into 4th place on corrected time by “Sea Wolf”, “Stella” and “Blackjack” but “Lighthorse” just held on to take the series win with 10-points, 1-point ahead of “Sea Wolf”, her main rival. “Stella” took 3rd place in the series with 22-points.

In IRC Division-C, even without turning out for the last race “Dexter II” had already confirmed first place in the series, finishing on 7-points. “Gearbox” finishing second in the series with 18-points took line honours and 3rd place in the final race (race-9). “Gambit” came 3rd in race-9 to secure a 3rd place series win with 23-points.

“Merlin” with plenty of points in hand for the series win, was a little behind the curve in Race-9, but with new crew on board still came 2nd behind “Sidewinder” to take the series title with 8-points. Steve Bourne, skipper of “Merlin” said Gareth Williams in “Sidewinder” did a great bit of kite work after the first mark to take him out of sight. “Sidewinder” finished 2nd in the series with 15-points. “BRACE BRACE BRACE” and “Black Magic”, neither of which took part in the final race both finished on 52-points but “BRACE...” took 3rd place in the series on count-back.

“Footloose”, “Jive” and “Jazz” were the top three performers, coming 1, 2 and 3 respectively in the series for J80 Boats. “Footloose” won Race-9, followed by “Jazz” and “Bumphead”. “Jive” came 5th in this last race but did enough to take second place in the series. Series results: “Footloose” 1st (9-points), “Jive”(Danny Sum) 2nd (12) and “Jazz” (On Sailing Club) 3rd (20).

In HKPN Division-A, “Kiasu” finished one place above “Getafix” in the final race to draw level on points and take the series first prize on count-back with both on 17-points. “Scintilla” took 3rd place in the series with 27-points. Race-9 result was: “Tornado” 1st followed by “Kiasu” 2nd and “Getafix” 3rd.

In the largest Division HKPN-B with 20 competitors listed it was again a day for the picturesque crafts with “Sleepy Piggy” taking 1st place, “White Dragon” was second and “Gecko” came third. But “Pepper & Salt” (24) won in the series closely followed by “Windseeker” (25) and “Eclipse” (32)
