The Empire State Building will be lit up in pink for 24 hours as a part of an international campaign to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg has declared Oct. 1 “The Estee Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign Day.” Bloomberg will present a proclamation dedicated to Evelyn Lauder to spokesmodel Elizabeth Hurley and Executive Chairman William Lauder at the lighting.
The theme this year is “Courage. Believe in a world without breast cancer. Know we’re here until it’s true.”
As a part of the campaign’s 20th anniversary, monuments and landmarks worldwide will be lit up in pink. The John F. Kennedy International Airport in NYC will also be lit up in the year as a part of the campaign.
“I am honored to dedicate this year’s BCA Campaign to my mother, Evelyn H. Lauder, a courageous pioneer who touched countless numbers of women and men with her breast health awareness message, raising millions of dollars to eradicate breast cancer from our lives,” Lauder said in a statement.
