Empire State Building fall: A man fell from the observation deck of the Empire State Building but landed on the floor below.

“He jumped from the 86th floor and landed on a catwalk just below it, between the 86th and 85th floors,” New York Police Department Detective Mark Nell told ABC News.

The man was identified as Nathaniel Fimone, who fell from the deck just before midnight, police said.

Citing witnesses, the New York Daily News reported that when Fimone was on the catwalk, he flailed his limbs as if he meant to again drop down.

Authorities are not clear if the fall was intentional.

“He climbed over the fence and dropped down,” a police source told the New York Post.

Police officers opened an office window and pulled him to safety.

He was taken to Bellevue hospital in New York and faces charges of reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, and criminal trespassing.

“He was in his own world, like he was lost,” Argentinian tourist Luis Ariel Jofre, 29, told the News. “He was calm looking down, like it was nothing, but it was 80 stories high.”
