Hook and Emma are the hottest couple in Once Upon a Time and fans are wondering whether they'll grow even closer in the upcoming season 4, or break apart.
The couple shared a kiss in the season 3 finale, and seemed ready to settle down a bit after some hectic situations.
Executive producer Eddy Kitsis told Mashable that there will be a date in the first batch of episodes.
“Like all things, there will be plenty of things trying to interrupt it,” he said.
It will probably be some of the new problems set to hit the characters in season 4, from Regina’s trouble since Maid Marian was brought to Storybrooke to the introduction of Elsa and the Snow Queen from Arrendale.
“My guess would be that there’s not going to be bliss for very long,” Jennifer Morrison (Emma) told Digital Spy earlier this year.
“But I’m intrigued to see, because Emma’s going to be starting season 4 in a whole different mindset–more vulnerable, more open–and for the first time in her life believing in people who’ve proven that they’re going to show up for her, and that they’re going to participate in her life and not let her down, so that is a much more vulnerable place for her to start the season.”
She added, “And it'll be interesting to see what the obstacles become , if the obstacle is another person, if the obstacle is distance, if the obstacle is within their personalities and trying to make things romantically.”
It’s unclear when it happens in the season but pictures that appear to be from the “OUAT” set that have been circulating on Pinterest and other websites, showing Hook and Emma in a deep kiss in the middle of town.
Colin O'Donoghue (Captain Hook) told Inside the Magic that “it’s a complicated relationship.”
“It’s not going to be easy. They have a connection, a really deep connection that I don’t think either of them fully understand,” he said.
“Hook’s a pirate and he’s spent hundreds of hundreds of years being a pirate.”
He added to The Hollywood Reporter, “They’ve really invested in maybe wanting to be together.Emma is The Savior and Hook is a 200-year-old pirate — it’s never going to be plain sailing or easy going. But they’re going to try their best to make their relationship work.”
In doing so, Hook — who will “do whatever it takes, good or bad” to maintain their romance — will be forced to decide whether “he can find a place for Emma within his heart when she’s so busy trying to save the world,” O'Donoghue added.
Jared Gilmore (Henry) said that Henry will be supportive of the relationship because Emma’s happiness is important to him, but he'll also have reservations.
“I think Henry is going to be a little skeptical at first; [Hook]’s a pirate and you really can’t trust a pirate that much,” he said.
“On the other hand, he’s a pirate. It'd be awesome if your mom’s boyfriend was a pirate.”
