A British Airways plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Heathrow airport shortly after taking off today.

A Boeing 747 on its way to New York made the emergency landing with 296 people on board. All are reported safe according to the BBC.

The plane returned 11 minutes after taking off at 9.20 BST. One of the doors was still not fully closed as indicated by a light in the cockpit.
Passengers are on another plane due to take off at 12.45.

“Obviously it takes a bit of time to find another aircraft but we are looking to do that as soon as possible,” a British Airways spokeswoman said.

A full investigation has begun and it is possible the light was faulty.
