Elton John Says His Mother Sheila Farebrother Has Passed Away

The mother of singer Elton John, Sheila Farebrother, has died at age 92, according to the musician, who posted an update on social media about her death.

“So sad to say that my mother passed away this morning. I only saw her last Monday and I am in shock. Travel safe Mum. Thank you for everything. I will miss you so much,” he wrote on Twitter. “Love, Elton.”

The singer, born Reginald Dwight in the United Kingdom, was an only child.

He and Farebrother became estranged in 2008, and the two only recently got “back in touch” with each other, according to a social media post of his in May.

“Dear Mum, Happy Mother’s Day! So happy we are back in touch,” he wrote on Instagram.

In 2015, Farebrother told British newspaper the Daily Mail that the two had fallen out of touch due to an argument over people in her life, claiming that John wanted her to cut out two people she was friendly with. She accused him of only being concerned with “wealth and fame” and said that he had cut out all “the plebs,” which included her, out of his life.

For her 90th birthday, she hired an Elton John tribute act to perform for her. John then got in touch with her and sent her white orchids, according to the BBC.
