Is Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman dead after being killed in prison following his capture?

A Mexican media website, Tierra Del Narco, is reporting that Guzman’s lifeless body was found Monday morning inside his cell at the Altiplano Maximum Security Prison, where he was taken after he was captured by officials over the weekend.

The 56-year-old was found “with bruises all over his body” after missing the prisoners roll call, the website claims.

No official sources have denied or confirmed the report.

Tierra Del Narco says the death is possible because all the security was focused on preventing Guzman’s escape, not on protecting him inside the prison.

Guzman has escaped from Mexican prisons twice in the past, prompting U.S. officials to call for his extradition soon after he was caught over the weekend.

All the prisoners also knew where Guzman was going to be interned, the website said.

Los Zetas, a rival cartel to Guzman’s Sinaloa cartel, is alleged to have done the job.

National security sources were said to have provided the insider news, and the Ministry of Interior is investigating the alleged crime.
