Best D-SLR Camera
Nikon D7000
Although Nikon’s D7000 digital SLR (D-SLR) camera is technically an entry-level D-SLR, it ranks among the top D-SLR cameras on the market and at a price that beats all competition.
The camera features two memory card slots similar to the Nikon D3, but uses SD cards rather than CF cards. This is nice, as it can record each photo to both cards simultaneously, and it reduces concern of losing (or accidentally deleting) your images.
The D7000 features stunning resolution and lightning-fast focus. It can shoot six frames per second, has 39 points of autofocus, and uses Nikon’s new 16.2-megapixel DX-Format CMOS Sensor. It can also record 1080p HD video with autofocus, but users should note that video on D-SLR cameras, in general, still needs some work.
Price: $1,199.95 without lens
$1,499.95 with AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens

Best Compact Camera
Canon PowerShot S95
Canon’s PowerShot S95 is a powerful, pocket-sized camera with a few tricks up its sleeve to satisfy even pro-level photographers who don’t feel like lugging around a D-SLR.
The 10-megapixel camera features a high-sensitivity sensor that can capture natural, clear images in nearly all settings. It features a 28mm wide-angle Canon f/2.0 lens, with 3.8x optical zoom. It is also Canon’s first compact camera to use Hybrid IS technology to reduce blur for up-close, macro photography.
For pros, the PowerShot S95 features a manual control ring on the front of the camera that gives access to manual controls, as well as RAW file format options. The camera also shoots 720p HD 24fps video with stereo sound.
Price: $399.99

Best Phone
Motorola Droid X
The Motorola Droid X is a display of the Android operating system at its finest. The smartphone features a 4.3-inch high-resolution screen, an 8-megapixel camera, an HD video recorder, and the ability to stream and share HD video content.
Unlike the Apple iPhone, the Android open operating system allows for near-complete customization, without the need to “jailbreak” it. The Android Market app store has more than 65,000 applications. Users should be forewarned that there is little regulation over the Android apps, whereas Apple screens each one coming through. This means that some apps may be of lower quality, but also makes it a more open field for developers.
The Motorola Droid X comes ready with Adobe Flash, allowing access to Flash videos and games online. Users can also tether the phone to their computer for Internet access.
Price: Starting at $199.99
