Update: The armed suspect has been caught, and the shelter-in-place has been lifted
A shelter-in-place has been ordered at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg in Florida on Tuesday as an armed suspect is near campus.
Police are searching for the suspect near the college, the college said via Twitter.
“Campus is on lockdown with armed suspect in the vicinity. E-mail says to follow shelter in place procedures immediately if on campus.”
Students and faculty are advised to go into the nearest room, lock the door, stay away from windows, and deny entry until receive all clear notice.
There are extra safety officers at both gates and extra monitoring at campus entrances.
