The Eastbourne Pier is being engulfed by a fire on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire broke out in a wall panel at the arcade in front of the structure, reported the Eastbourne Herald.

The Pier has been evacuated.

Firefighters, police, and coastguards are among the personnel responding to the fire.

The pier originally opened in 1870.

There have been no reports of injuries as of yet, according to ITV.

“We can all hear the wood cracking now,” said Emma Read, a witness, via Twitter.

“So sad.”
