A 2.5-magnitude earthquake struck south of Los Angeles in Orange County’s Costa Mesa. Two other slightly larger earthquakes struck nearby.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake hit on Tuesday afternoon and had a depth of 3.1 miles, reported the Los Angeles Times.

OC Weekly’s Matt Coker wrote “I felt a quick jolt under my feet followed by what sounded like someone running across my roof” and added that “someone on the other side of Costa Mesa confirmed they, too, felt an earthquake.”

The Survey also said that a 3.6-magnitude quake and a 3.1-magnitude quake struck near Niland, Calif., located east of Los Angeles.

The Times reported that there have been two earthquakes with a magnitude of 3 or greater in the area over the past 10 days.
