An earthquake hit today in the Philippines, but no tsunami was issued.

The 5.9 magnitude quake hit above the collection of islands that make up the Philippines, about 44 miles north of Burgos, the U.S. Geological Service said.

The quake hit at a depth of 4.6 miles.

Earthquakes are common in the area, with a number of tectonic plates moving against each other.

A 5.9 quake is relatively strong, but with it being off-shore, likely didn’t cause any damage.

The quake was also 59 miles northwest of Claveria, 63 miles north-northwest of Laoag, and 65 miles north-northwest of San Nicolas.
