A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Southern California on Wednesday morning, according to U.S. officials.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake hit at around 7:38 a.m. around three miles from Isla Vista and 12 miles from Santa Barbara. The quake had a depth of around 5 miles.

The quake was originally reported as a 4.9 on the Richter scale, but it was downgraded to 4.6. Another 2.6-magnitude quake occurred around 10 minutes later, reported WPTV.

In Santa Barbara and nearby areas, residents noted light shaking.

“We’re not expected any problems here,” Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Ross Bonfiglio told the station.

Brian Park of Isla Vista told the Southern California Public Radio: “I just felt the house shake and then just everything started to fall, and then my bed was — well, I’m on a bunk bed, so that started to wobble around.”

He added, “It was kind of scary ‘cause my house is pretty unstable, so I thought it was going to collapse or something.”
