An earthquake hit today in central California, one mile west of Hollister and 12 miles southeast of Gilroy.
The quake was magnitude 3.3. It hit at a depth of 5.9 miles (9.5 kilometers).
The quake also hit 14 miles east-northeast of Prunedale and 17 miles northeast of Salinas, the U.S. Geological Service reported.
For a bigger context, the quake hit 119 miles south of Sacramento and about 100 miles southeast of San Francisco.
