An earthquake struck today in Tennessee near Wildwood Lake and Cleveland.

The 3.1 magnitude quake hit near the border with Alabama in the Eastern Tennessee Seismic Zone, the U.S. Geological Service said.

Besides being seven miles south-southeast of Wildwood Lake, it was 12 miles south-southeast of Cleveland, and 17 miles north-northeast of Dalton in Georgia.

It was also 89 miles north-northwest of Atlanta.

“We felt it around 6:45 pm. The dishes rattled and the floor and doors shook. We live in east Cohutta,” said Angela Hampton via Facebook.

“Strange,” said Shawn Wiley. “I live closer to this than my parents and they felt it but I didn’t. It was only about 3 miles southwest of my home. My sisters neighbors driveway cracked in downtown Cleveland.”

Added Tina Sadler O'Brien: “We heard it and felt it. There was a loud boom and then the house shook. My husband tried to blame it on the dogs!”
