Dylan Alkins, a 14-year-old English boy, is feared dead after authorities called off a search for him. He was lost out at sea while he was playing in the surf in Newhaven, East Sussex.

During the storm, the teen disappeared during the bout of rough weather that also left more than a dozen people dead across Europe.

Rescue teams, including the U.K. Coastguard and other agencies, searched the area near where he was last seen, reported The Independent. They said their efforts were made in “atrocious conditions.”

They later called off the search, saying that it is now a recovery operation.

A spokesperson described the boy’s family as “distraught.”

On Facebook, there was a Facebook page set up in his memory.

“The sky has gained another star, one that will shine brighter than the rest, I will look up at it every night and will think of the memories we shared, sleep tight Dylan, I miss and love you so much, don’t get into too much trouble with them angels;) miss you mate xx,” reads one post, according to the Mirror.

Another friend added: “R.I.P Dylan, bless your heart, god has gained another angel, sleep tight shine bright babe forever young xxx.”
