THE HAGUE, Netherlands—Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company brought to the people of The Hague “an art form that was tempered over thousands of years,” represented by classical Chinese dance and music, according to the company’s website.

Mr. O.L.H. van Hemel, an ophthalmologist, and Ms. Nanette van Schelven, a lawyer, who works as a director at the Dutch Immigration Service, enjoyed the Shen Yun performance at the Lucent Danstheater on March 18.

Shen Yun Performing Arts is a world-renowned company, which brings to the world 5,000 years of Chinese history and civilization.

“Very well performed, and colorful and beautiful,” said Ms. van Shelven.

Mr. van Hemel not only said that the performance was outstanding, but it also brought him a different perspective of dance.

He said the show “is comprehensive, as you go back in history and then forwards to today. It is a completely different experience for us than we are used to.

He commented that Chinese classical dance “has more dancers and they are very well synchronized.”

Fashion leaders worldwide have commented on the beauty of the handmade Shen Yun costumes and are hoping to incorporate some of that beauty into their own designs.

Both Mr. van Hemel and Ms. van Shelven agree with the fashion experts.

“And the dresses/costumes, it is a little history,” said Ms. van Shelven. Mr. van Hemel said, “And the colors, they are natural colors!”

Different people in the audience may see different things when watching Shen Yun.

Ms. van Shelven saw that “it is a about good and bad, and about how good conquers evil.”

After a while she added, “The spiritual words and other dimensions, every time there is another dimension and then the Gods come down and help. You ask the Gods for help and they come and they help you.”
