[xtypo_dropcap]I[/xtypo_dropcap]n an effort to encourage more people to donate blood, the American Red Cross is collaborating with Dunkin Donuts for its “Give A Pint, Get A Pound” campaign, which offers blood donors at Red Cross blood drives across New England a coupon for a free pound of Dunkin Donuts coffee.

Aiming to raise awareness about the importance of donating blood, the offer spans from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, to Vermont throughout January.

In addition to being the National Blood Donor Month, January is also an especially difficult time for blood donations due to the flu season and severe weather. The American Red Cross hopes the campaign will help encourage blood donations when they are needed the most.

This is the third year Dunkin Donuts and the American Red Cross are teaming up for the campaign. Past campaigns have helped the American Red Cross exceed their blood collection goals, collecting a total of 16 million blood donations every year, according to the Red Cross’s statistics.

The American Red Cross stated that every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood.
