Duffman Pannell, head coach of the Ramapo High School football team, was arrested for allegedly hitting a player with a helmet.

Pannell dragged the player, Brandon Girault, along the ground and kicked him; the victim then took off his helmet, which the coach then grabbed and allegedly swung the helmet and hit the player, his mother told ABC.

The boy was taken to a hospital where doctors said he had a concussion, and a bruised and swollen eye.

Pannell, 43, is a first-year head coach, reported the Journal News.

He was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, based upon the severity of the injuries, and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was booked on Monday and scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
