A man was arrested after crashing his Toyota truck into a courthouse in Gulfport, Mississippi, on Nov. 10.

Video footage shows the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Keith Cavalier, driving into the glass entrance of the courthouse. He then climbs out of the truck and stands next to it for several minutes, but a tow truck driver said he wasn’t there when he arrived, NewsChannel6 reported.

Police arrested Cavalier one day after the crash. He reportedly told officers that he drove his truck into the building in order to contact police to report stolen drug paraphernalia.

Police said the damage is likely more than $1,000, making it a felony.

“There is an aesthetics issue with finding an exact match for some of the materials,” said Board of Supervisors spokesman Jeff Clark told NewsChannel6. “Due to this factor, we are not able to project the cost of the project until this is resolved.”

No one was in the building during the crash. It’s not clear if Cavalier was injured.

He was charged with felony malicious mischief and first-offense DUI before he was booked into the Harrison County Jail, The Associated Press reported. It’s not clear if he has an attorney.

“The Harrison County Board of Supervisors is certainly glad that no one was injured during the crash,” explained Clark. “The board is appreciative of the work by the Gulfport Police Department with the arrest of the driver.”

Cavalier was arrested in 2011 on resisting arrest charges. In 2015, he was charged with domestic violence, and in 2017, he was charged with malicious mischief and domestic violence, The Sun Herald reported.

Mississippi offices were closed on Nov. 12, for Veterans Day.

Gulfport, located on the Gulf coast, is about 80 miles northwest of New Orleans, Louisiana.
