NEW YORK—Faysal Kabir Mohammad Himon, the driver of the yellow taxi which struck a British tourist and severed her leg, has not slept for days.

Himon was quiet and visibly exhausted at a press conference outside the hospital where Sian Green, the 23-year-old who was injured, is being treated.

“I just feel very sorry about what happened,” Himon said.

Himon stood beside Fernando Mateo, head of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers. Mateo said that he hopes that the family will allow Himon to visit Green at the hospital and have the opportunity to bring her flowers and apologize in person.
