NEW YORK—Oak Hill Academy’s Doron Lamb (No. 21 Rivals, No. 29 ESPNU) by way of New York City has announced his decision for the University of Kentucky during the Jordan Brand Classic on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.

“I love the coaching staff,” Lamb said. “I think next year we’re going to be a team to beat.”

The 6-foot-4-inch, 175-pound shooting guard originally from New York had been weighing his choices between Arizona, Connecticut, Kansas, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

His coach Steve Smith said earlier in the week, “I think he kind of favors Kentucky and Kansas right now.”

Between then and now, the scales somehow tipped toward the Wildcats.

Lamb now marks Kentucky coach John Calipari’s third star recruit in the Spring Signing Period after Calipari snagged Turkish sensation Enes Kanter and then received a commitment from arguably the best player in the 2010 class Brandon Knight on national television on Wednesday.

“[Calipari] gets guys in the league, and you know he’s good with the guards,” Lamb said. “I am looking forward to next year, him helping me with my guard skills and hopefully I can make my dream come true.”

The combo guard has a great mid-range game, a nice 3-point stroke, and the toughness that is so characteristic of NYC guards. Playing for Oak Hill, one of the premier prep basketball programs in the nation, has pitted Lamb against stiff competition and Lamb has proven himself thoroughly.

The backcourt duo of Knight and Lamb will try to live up to the expectations that John Wall and Eric Bledsoe set in the past year. Wall and Bledsoe have both declared for the NBA Draft after just one season in Lexington and both are projected lottery picks.
