Don Laurel, known once as a star of television shows in the ‘90s in the Philippines, is now a police officer in Toronto, Canada.

Laurel was in shows including Gimik and Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan with Claudine Barretto and Carlos Agassi.

Now a constable, he told ABS-CBN that his dream was always to be a cop.

“I’m very proud to wear this uniform and helping out not just the Filipino community as well, but the whole city of Toronto,” he said.

He’s been an officer at the 32 Division in Toronto for six years, and also works with the Philippine Consulate in Toronto to help out Filipinos with information sessions, explaining laws and other things to them.

“I just want them to know that it’s ok to speak, we’re there to help you,” he said.

His supervisors noticed something about him and have also commended him.

“When he went out on the road and did some calls I noticed that he had a little bit of a fanfare following him around and recognizing him,” said Sergeant Lawrence Sager.

“I’m always looking for people that can represent the police service in a professional way that can talk well to people and can interact and he has the advantage of knowing language,” added Superintendent Sam Fernandes.
