Dome Co., LTD is forging ahead with its plans to return to endurance racing in 2014, according to an article on Endurance-Info.com.

Dome’s new president Hiroshi Fushida announced in November 2012 that the Japanese company was considering building an LMP1 prototype to fit FIA-ACO’s new 2014 regulations and was also considering a P2 chassis. Those plans have been confirmed and construction is proceeding, according to the firm’s president.

“Regarding Dome LMP sports car project, we have completed initial wind tunnel tests with current S102.5 model and the substantial wind tunnel test program will commence within a month with a new model complying with 2014 regulations,” Fushida told E-I.com.

Dome, which returned to endurance racing with its updated S102.5 operated by the now-defunct Pescarolo Team at Spa and Le Mans in 2012 after several years on the sidelines, will begin serious wind-tunnel work on a 2014 model sometime during March.

“We'll be working on wind tunnel program as well as design work for both LMP1 and LMP2,” Fushida continued. “We would hope that we could release images of a new LMP1 car within three months or so.

“Dome is now working on LMP1 and 2 projects and we'll be more than happy to supply LMP cars to teams.”

Dome joins Audi, Toyota, Multimatic/Lola, Lotus, and Oak as factories penning new P1 designs for 2014, making that season potentially the most hotly contested in several years.

Further, the availability of a variety of customer cars should revitalize the privateer championship. The P1 class is looking a bit thin for 2013, with only Rebellion and Strakka willing to challenge the factory teams.
